Opus Law Instructed in Nationwide Serious Fraud Case
David Golden, Consultant, acted in a serious prosecution named 'Operation Mudskipper'. Opus acted for the main defendant in respect of alleged frauds by false representation. The offences were said to have occurred in Cumbria, Lancashire, Wales and the West Country and involved a fraud of many thousands of pounds over a substantial number of years.
To ensure that the client’s interests were fully protected a member of the Opus team attended identification showings in Cornwall and Lancashire. The allegations relating to those areas were abandoned against Opus’s client as were two offences in South Wales to which other defendants had already pleaded guilty.
A member of the team made frequent visits to the client who was on remand in the West Country and in accordance with Opus’s high degree of client care a member of the team attended each and every court hearing. Opus thereby took a lead role in the reduction to just two charges of a total of six charged and seven initially alleged.
James Tilbury of Carmelite Chambers was instructed in this case.
